Washboard Falls, Hamilton – A Hidden Gem

Washboard Falls truly is a hidden gem. While Hamilton is home to many large and dramatic waterfalls, Washboard Falls stands out for its unique “washboard” structure. Often overlooked due to its modest size and difficulty to reach, this waterfall features tiered rock ledges that resemble a natural washboard — giving it both its name and its photographic charm.

This image captures Washboard Falls in autumn, when the surrounding forest is ablaze with golden tones, a carpet of leaves and the water trickles in soft, consistent flows. The surrounding rocks and stream offer ideal compositions. The smaller scale invites a more intimate, close-up approach, highlighting texture and subtle movement.

Washboard is just a couple hundred meters past the more popular Tiffany Falls. Use caution, it can be risky hike up past Tiffany Falls especially in wet damp conditions!

In addition to Washboard Falls, there are many wonderful waterfalls in the vicinity. Check out my blog post, Discover the Best Waterfalls in Hamilton!
