Webster Falls is one of Hamilton’s most iconic Waterfalls. Among Hamilton’s many waterfalls, Webster’s Falls is a standout. With a 22-metre (72-foot) plunge drop and a broad curtain-like flow, it offers a dramatic yet accessible subject for photographers. Its proximity to a historic stone bridge and manicured parkland adds a layer of story and structure in other locations.
This image captures Webster’s Falls during fall season which is my favourite. If you are lucky to catch bright colours during this season it will surely complement your composition. The vantage point emphasizes the waterfall’s full width while incorporating elements of the surrounding cliffs and tree canopy.
As with most waterfall shots, using a slower shutter speed of 1/4 sec or greater emphasizes the motion of water and with a tripod, you retain the detail of the surrounding area.
Webster’s Falls is located in Spencer Gorge Conservation Area, near Dundas, Ontario. Access is restricted during peak seasons, and a reservation is typically required. Trails around the falls are maintained but may have limited access to the base due to erosion concerns. The top viewing area offers excellent photographic angles.
In addition to Webster Falls, there are many wonderful waterfalls in the vicinity. Check out my blog post, Discover the Best Waterfalls in Hamilton!
