Tucked into the lush woods of Ancaster in Hamilton, Ontario, Sherman Falls is a serene, 17-metre-high curtain waterfall with a consistent year-round flow. Surrounded by mature trees, it’s one of the area’s most photogenic and accessible waterfalls.
This autumn image highlights Sherman Falls in a moment of overcast light, emphasizing its delicate flow and the rich surrounding foliage. The symmetrical rock face and forest framing create a natural balance in the composition. A 1/4 sec plus exposure was used to smooth out the water while using a tripod to preserve detail in the leaves and rock.
The falls is located just off Lions Club Road in Ancaster, and is accessible via the Bruce Trail. There is limited parking nearby, and the walk to the falls is short and scenic. The area is popular but less crowded than other major falls in Hamilton.
In addition to Sherman Falls, there are many wonderful waterfalls in the vicinity. Check out my blog post, Discover the Best Waterfalls in Hamilton!
