As first light breaks over the rolling hills of Val d’Orcia, Podere Belvedere emerges from the morning mist in one of Tuscany’s most iconic landscapes. The location was an absolute must location in planning my Italian photo itinerary. Soft golden light sweeps across the fields, revealing layers of green farmland, and scattered cypress trees that define this UNESCO World Heritage region.
This sunrise scene captures what my mind dreams of when thinking of rural Tuscany—low fog settling in the valleys while sunlit ridges glow gently against a dramatic sky. Podere Belvedere has become a symbol of the Tuscan countryside, often photographed for its timeless composition and the way light transforms the landscape throughout the day.
Photographing this location at sunrise offers a constantly changing mood. As clouds drift and light shifts, the hills take on depth and texture, creating a scene that feels both expansive and intimate.
Photographer tip, as the sun peaks out of the clouds you need to be careful of lens flare and shield the side of lens. As with a lot of locations in Tuscany, you may be infringing on peoples private land, so please be extremely respectful so that others in the future can enjoy this sublime landscape.
