Volcanic Cinder Cones in Haleakalā National Park Maui

Volcanic Cinder Cones

The Volcanic Cinder Cones in Haleakalā National Park is a must-see destination if you are visiting Maui. Planning is required as it stands over 10,000 feet above sea level and weather is unpredictable. I have been caught in cloud, sleet and wind a couple times. You will be surprised how chilly it can get in Maui on this peak. Haleakalā, often referred to as the “House of the Sun,” is a massive shield volcano that forms more than 75% of the Hawaiian island of Maui. Most people target the famous sunrise, but I targeted sunset and also exploring the volcanic crater and its many cinder cones.

If you are there at sunset, you might be treated to an otherworldly view with a carpet of clouds beneath you.

If you found this composition interesting, take a look a landscape perspective of the amazing red cinder cones of Haleakalā Volcano

When exploring Maui, one book that I have referenced in the past and can recommend is Maui Revealed.  There is certainly a mountain of info online now, but I still found myself referencing some of the hidden gems found in its pages on my last trip.
