I had travelled to China many times on business and capturing the Great Wall was always on my bucket list. Having Beijing as my starting point, Badaling would have been the easiest location but as well swarmed with tonnes of tourists. I think the Jinshanling section captures the essence of what I think of the Great Wall… spanning mountain tops and in some places worn down and wild. Built during the Ming Dynasty, Jinshanling is located about 125 kilometers northeast of Beijing, this section spans 10.5 kilometers and boasts 67 watchtowers. It is well worth making the extra effort and the challenging hiking up the mountain ridges. As an added bonus, in some places, we were on our to peacefully compose images of the amazing piece of history.
