La Perouse Bay has some of the best snorkeling that Maui has to offer. The Bay is part of the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve. There is a brief open water swim across the bay to coves in the lava rock where the snorkeling is best. This “over and under” effect is achieved by placing a large bulbous dome in front of your lens that pushes the water line away from lens. Coupled with a very wide angle you can get a unique perspective from both above and below the water.
