Sunset Bad Water Death Valley National Park

Badwater Basin

Badwater Basin is one of my favourite places to photograph in Death Valley National Park. A trivia fact of the location is that it is the lowest point in North America, at 282 feet below sea level. The basin is named after the small spring-fed pool of “bad water” located there, which is undrinkable due to its high salinity. The unique hexagonal salt formations, created by the repeated cycles of flooding and evaporation, give the landscape a surreal, otherworldly appearance. Every time I have returned to this location, it has presented new and unique compositions to appreciate.
